By the way, if you ever have to choose between seeing Pelican live and seeing Keelhaul live, see Pelican.
Keelhaul is the most one of the most boring bands I've ever seen. Pelican actually seem to have fun and enjoy their own music.
People who saw Isis' last American tour will surely agree with me.

But he lent me The Argument, and I didn't really get where the hardcore was in this; it just looked like some awesome noise-something. These lawsuits are nothing short of malicious. 30 songs is $30 on the iTunes store. If a person is caught shoplifting $30 anywhere else, it's a misdemeanor, deserving a slap on the wrist.
But steal from the RIAA, they'll fuck you up for the rest of your life.
Lawsuits accomplish nothing other than the continued alienation of fans and the ruining of a few innocent, law-abiding people's lives.

Re-posting because it's still really friggin good. GY!BE members, which you probably already knew. Ephraim's voice takes a little getting used to, but I actually like it. I wish these guys would tour again, them live is truly an experience. 4 long songs, all of which are excellent, especially the first two. A lot of people call this post-rock, but I don't really see any relation between this and the vast majority of post-rock bands. I'd call this album psychedelic folk, similar to Comus. Listen.

Oh well, this band used to be called Tarantula AD, then broke up and reformed under this name. If you happen to be familiar with Tarantula AD, this sounds completely different. Their sound ranges from riffy stoner rock to mellow experimental and progressive bits. Somewhere in between Pelican, Kyuss, and King Crimson.

The more I listen, the more I realize that guitarist Rober Bustabad (also of Banished From Inferno) is the star of this particular horror show. His riffs are sick and simple, and his guitar tone is positively nasty—it’s thick, almost dripping something vile, sharp without being thin, viscous without being muddy. There are really no new additions to the gore-grind bag of tricks here, but this is done so expertly, so passionately, so violently that it doesn’t matter. You know the drill. Death metal riffs meld seamlessly with grinding blastbeats… Below vocals growled and occasionally rasped in a Carcass-y midrange… Alongside ominous samples from what I’m assuming are Spanish language horror films (no hablo, I’m afraid)... Riffs like the simple three-note repeated run in "Altares De Lo Macabro" twist and turn and ooze without overpowering the listener with sheer blunt force, and then riffs like the pounding intro to "Exstatis Nauseabundo" smash your skull like a hammer. It’s give and take; it allows you a second to breathe before it punches you silly… Even as it sits strictly within the proscribed framework, Mundo Cripta is akin to the slasher film that manages to transcend its own limitations, manages to scare the piss out of you without relying solely upon cheap shock tactics amidst predictable machete-wielding stock characters. Put differently, it’s the "Halloween" to a lesser band’s "Silent Night, Deadly Night."
Good ‘n’ bloody ‘n’ bloody good, this one is. Gore metal doesn’t get too much better than this, kids.

No Gods, No Managers is the only full-length studio album by American hardcore punk band Choking Victim. The album was released in 1999 through Hellcat/Epitaph Records and re-released on LP format by Epitaph in 2004. Being the sole full-length album of Choking Victim, it became hugely popular in the punk scene. It inspired many nascent bands, and the band members of Choking Victim went on to form other bands, most notably Leftöver Crack.

The tone of the album is largely dark and pessimistic, with lyrics and artwork containing Satanic imagery. The cover does not contain a barcode, presumably in accordance with their staunch anti-capitalist message, and is decorated with various satanic and anti-Christian symbols. Musically, Ignominious Incarceration play a sort of melodic but still relatively brutal and technical death metal. The only real comparison in the balance I could think of was maybe a cross between Sweden’s Aeon, Vehemence and Woe of Tyrants, though don’t quote me on that and the band has cited Decapitated, Behemoth, The Black Dahlia Murder and Beneath the Massacre as some of thier favorite acts -so maybe thats more reliable. That being said, the naysayers will say some of the dual melodies and solos do have a certain modern death core ‘wanna be European’ presence (i.e “Savior”, ‘Solitude”, “Dynasty Damnation”) and the production from Scott Atkins (UK metalcore act Sylosis) is awfully polished. But on the whole, when taken as a single entity, the back bone of the music is far more death metal structured- there are no breakdowns, no uber noodly blast beats, no pig squeals (Andy Wardle has a fairly standard mid level scream/growl), just well done melodic death metal with a beefy edge and some very cool solos (”Deeds of Days Long Gone”), though not quite total shred fests like Woe of Tyrants and their ilk.

Still, there are some nifty riffs and structures that range from the typical blistering, scathing grindcore blasts (”Lefty”, “The Cacographer”, “Frogs, Boils, Locusts”, “You Should be Longer”) to violent punky expulsions (”The Midget and the Duchess”, “) and few grooves (”Sloth-Ass”, “The Difficulty in Listening to the Elderly”) and some tasty thrash injections (”Buddy System”, Bad Beekeeping”). It’s all furious and fun, and never overstays its welcome.

Old Isis meets old Converge maybe? You could call this metalcore if you wanted, but they have nothing in common with As I Lay Dying or Chimaira or other Hot Topic bands. It's heavy as balls and really good. Another band that went before their time.

Gather Scatter is an unbelievably impressive full-length debut for this Chicago foursome. It's one part melody, one part punk energy, and one part inventive rock, all wrapped up with enough off-time rhythms and coarse emotion to ensure the listener's engagement. It goes well with Akimbo and a lot of the current Louisville scene (Young Widows, Lords, Brain Banger, etc.). I like to use my "mandatory listening" stamp responsibly, but refraining from applying it to Millions would be a crime. Check this out.
