Thee Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra and Tra-La-La Band (aka A Silver Mt. Zion) - 13 Blues for Thirteen Moons
About half of Godspeed You! Black Emperor is in this band, and their early material sounds a good deal like that, but by the time this came out they had changed completely. Four songs, each 13-16 minutes long, 7 piece made up of guitar, stand up bass, drum, cello, and violin. They write sad fucking songs. If you ever have the chance to see them live, do it.
Russian Circles - Enter
Fairly new 3 piece post rock band from Chicago. Imagine a band that sounds like Stairway To Heaven, except written in the 21st century and without Robert Plant. That's kinda what this sounds like.
Kiss The Anus Of A Black Cat - If The Sky Falls We Shall Catch Larks
Belgian psychedelic/folk band. Ignore the stupid name, this is some very cool stuff. I really don't have any point of reference for this... maybe the bastard offspring of Iron and Wine and Pink Floyd.
The Black Keys - Rubber Factory
Two piece blues rock band from Ohio. I have yet to encounter anyone who has given these guys a chance and doesn't like them. They just kick ass.
